WHAT DOES “READ THE EDGES” MEAN?

The coast is never completely still.

The tide changes. Water moves through the rocks. Birds work the shoreline. Seaweed, shells and exposed stone reveal what the Atlantic has been doing.

Read the Edges is about noticing those details.

The edges are the places where things meet — land and sea, rock and water, calm and weather, familiar ground and the unknown.

The oystercatcher represents that connection. It lives and feeds right on that boundary, naturally reading the shoreline as the tide moves in and out.

THE BACK ARTWORK

The large back print is designed to feel like an old coastal field illustration.

At its centre is an oystercatcher — one of the distinctive birds found around rocky Cornish and British shorelines.

Around it are layers of rock, water, seaweed and shell life, creating a picture of the intertidal zone — the constantly changing strip of coastline exposed and covered by the tide.

That is the edge.

The artwork connects that natural awareness with surf culture: watching the water, reading changing conditions and understanding the environment around you.
